Powerful buffalo carved from angelite with blue opal eyes and an offering bundle was created by Zuni artist Daryl Shack Sr. This carving is termed a concretion, meaning the animal emerged from the stone with little work from the carver. Daryl tries to leave parts of the stone alone and just finish the parts that clearly describe what he is after. The buffalo represents good medicine, the fulfillment of powers and steadfast endurance. The buffalo was the mainstay of the Plains Indians and was used for food as well as shelter, clothing and weapons.
