Zuni Carved Corn Maiden Fetish--Double
Description
Zuni Carved Double Corn Maiden Fetish by Troy Sice
This spectacular double corn maiden was carved from antler with coral, shell, lapis, marble, malachite and turquoise accents. The sculpture has a band of all the accent stones wrapped around the base. This beautiful piece with the maidens swaying as they dance was created by renowned Zuni fetish carver Troy Sice. The Corn Maiden brought corn to the people and with it comes the power of life. As the corn is given life by the sun, the corn maiden brings the fire of the sun into humans, making them as the Creator designed them to be. Each maiden brings one seed of corn that is nurtured with love like that given to a child, that this one seed would sustain the entire tribe forever. With love and strength from the tribe, the tiny seeds mature and grow tall and strong, soon offering mature ears of corn for an abundance of the crop for the people. The dragoflies that are etched on the maidens are water symbols. They are messengers tht carry our prayers to Creator. This piece has symbols for rain, water, stars, planets and of course, corn. The round iridescent dots of shell represent corn kernels. This is an amazing piece that we obtained through a private collector.
