Native American Acoma Carved Eagle Sculpture
Description
Native American Acoma Carved Eagle Sculpture by A. Lowden
This is the first cottonwood carving we have seen from the Acoma pueblo. This unique piece shows an eagle head at the top. The Eagle is the messenger between the people and their spirit guides. Below this soaring eagle is the kiva with steps leading down to the pueblo. Below that is a traditional pot filled with corn. The base is a drum with a dance sash draped over the side. The base of the sculpture has another sash banding it. The symbology on this carving includes a prayer feather, stars and corn. This piece came from a private collection.
