Native American Hopi Carved Comanche Kachina Sculpture (Katsina Sculpture)
Description
Native American Hopi Carved Comanche Katsina Sculpture by Aaron Honyumptewa
Comanche (Komantsi or Tutumsi) pays tribute to the Comanche warrior and his powerful presence. The Comanche were taught how to dry farm by the Hopi. In exchange, the Comanche gave the Hopi their dances and songs in order to call for the rain to come and nourish the earth. In honor of these warriors the Hopi created this Katsina. He appears at the Mixed Dances. The Comanche is a powerful and feared warrior. This is a spectacular bust of a Comanche warrior by Aaron. The details are so real you want to touch the braided fabric around his head and the turkey tail feathers look so perfect one thinks they are small feathers. A really great job of carving, burning and painting in this new style that Aaron has introduced.
