Native American Navajo Rugs
At Kachina House we carry a small selection of Native American Navajo rugs, handmade by Navajo weavers using hand-dyed wool.
In the Navajo Creation story, it was Spider Woman who taught the people how to weave. Early weavings were made for utilitarian purposes like traditional dresses and saddle blankets. It wasn’t until the late 19th century that Navajo weavers began creating their incredible textiles for sale. These beautiful native rugs are the continuation of this long and storied history.
Navajo weaving is a celebrated form of artistic expression. We are proud to offer a selection of authentic Navajo rugs each handmade by a talented weaver using hand-dyed wool. Our collection of handwoven rugs features many traditional patterns associated with specific areas of the reservation, including Two Grey Hills, Ganado, and Teec Nos Pos. Much like the beautiful silverwork found in our Navajo jewelry , these patterns are a unique part of the artistry. Displayed on a wall or laid on the floor, these textiles are stunning examples of fine Native American art.
