Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handpainted Pot
Mata Ortiz Handbuilt and Handpainted Pot by Lydia Quezada
This wonderful pot was handbuilt and handpainted by Mata Ortiz resident Lydia Quezada. A spectacular piece with pristine painting on a beautiful black background. The glossy black is achieved by rubbing a mixture of kerosene and graphite into the clay and polishing it with a stone until it shines. The photo does not do this pot justice; the pattern circles the pot in a continuous line. This pot is spectacular to look at and when it is held, feels perfect to the touch. With its unusual rim, this pot is so perfectly made that it stands on its own. We include the stand to protect the bottom of the pot.
